3rd XI vs Uxbridge

Southgate Won by 115 runs
Miscampbell 90, Babs 43, Sage 12-1-33-4

After a long winter, the 3s were eager to start the 2019 season on a positive note. With threatening clouds overhead, the game got underway at the back at midday. We lost the toss (or as captain Dan PK pointed out, they won it) and the opposition elected to bowl first on the damp wicket.

Babs was making murmurs of coming down the ground first ball to hit a glorious 6 over long off. To the Southgate boys disappointment this didn’t materialise. However, after losing Christian cheaply, we were treated to a good partnership between Babs and Rory… both men went well, setting a solid platform for the boys that were watching on (MisCampbell top scored for the 'gate with a well measured 90, jug avoidance for the ton paid off in the bar after the game). With a nice cameo at the end from Sage, SSC ended the first innings on 223-8 off our 45 overs.

Feeling confident with our total, we had a quick tea, eager to get back out and take the game to the Uxbridge. Abs and Lewis set the tone with some fine bowling in the first spell. Keeping things tight in the field Southgate looked sharp and kept the pressure on the opposition. Sage continued the charge, taking 4 wickets for the gate. With the rate required building and building and the field maintaining discipline with good command from Dan PK, wickets began to fall more regularly.

In the end, Southgate won comfortably, bowling Uxbridge all out for just over a ton. An encouraging start to the season by all accounts, with plenty of time for Babs to come down the wicket for a maximum 1 st ball…
