For a more in-depth history of Southgate CC have a look at the ‘History’ section. But in short, we were established back in 1855. Cricket had been played on the part of the Arnos Grove estate known as ‘Chapel Fields’ since the 1840s, but John Walker re-levelled the playing area and founded SCC in 1855. The ground was later named ‘The Walker Cricket Ground’ in 1907, when RD Walker, the last survivor of the seven brothers in the family stated that the grounds be ‘used for ever’ for the playing of games.

Today, the club’s facilities and ground are second to none, a statement that Middlesex CC have up to very recently played a number of their first class and one-day matches at the ground.

Southgate has also hosted a number of international sides over the past few years, including South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

The club runs four Saturday and two Sunday elevens, providing members with competitive and friendly cricket. A founder member of the Middlesex County Cricket League, the club also takes part in National, Regional, County and Borough knockout cup competitions. There is also a thriving Colts section providing coaching and competitive cricket for over 100 local children between the ages of 7 and 15.

As a Clubmark accredited ECB focus club, we are committed to driving the club and the game forward.
